Visa Run to Fukuoka Japan
This post is quite a bit late! I finished my teaching contract at I Kids’ Park on Feb 10th. Nancy won’t finish her contract until the end of March. So I had to fly over to Japan to come back into Korea on a tourist visa. So I flew over on February 17th. I got held up at immigration because my visa was apparently seven days expired. They held me for about 40 minutes and gave me some harsh looks. They made me sign a paper saying that I was a bad boy and that I acknowledge my law breaking and then they stamped me and sent me on my way.
I stayed at the Guest House Kaine. It was only ¥2500 per night ($25) which is really cheap for Japan! The accomodations were clean and had a hip modern style. In the front of the guest house was a small restaurant. I ate dinner there, a yummy tempura udon, with Yohei and we had a couple of beers together. Yohei worked at the front desk and was really cool and made my night a very good one because he spoke English the whole time. Otherwise I would have done a lot of people watching and thinking.
The next morning I woke up early and wandered around the city a bit snapping some photos before catching the subway back to the airport. The plane flight was only a one hour direct flight and they even gave me some nuts and drinks. 🙂 I got held up at immigration again upon rentry because of my previous expired visa crime. I did get to go to the ambassador window though! They held me there for a while, which was visibly annoying to some important people in that line behind me. Eventually they gave me a hard stare and stamped me in, as Borat would say, “Very nice!”

The Last Days at I Kids’ Park and Student Snaps
So this Friday ended my last full week of work at I Kids’ Park. I will go in on Monday and Tuesday and then I’ll be finished up. It’s a strange feeling. I’m excited to have some free time to do some photo work and relax, but mostly I’ll be busting my hump preparing for a move to Bhutan.
It’s hard for it to sink in that after Tuesday, I won’t see any of the kids anymore. I’m really sad about that! I’ve grown very attached to some and I think I’m going to be lost without them for a while! I took some pictures on Friday and I’m planning on taking some more on Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some images as I have time to process them. Until then, here is a series of images I put together of Helen. I don’t have her in class but she comes to see me almost everyday before classes start and I think she is a special person, and cute too!
